The Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika has disclosed that Akanu Ibiam International Airport runway in Enugu would be finished before Easter.
The Minister, during an inspection, visited the Airport said that due to the specific action and importance of the Airport to the South-East region, the Federal Government with full care handled the project over to a reputable construction company, called Messrs PW Limited.
He said that the Federal Government in August closed the runway of the Airport for important amendments and work on the airport.
The Minister stated that some of the causes for the closure of the Airport include the damaged runway and landing aids and the close public market nearby the airport which allow birds to fly into the airport which led to usual bird strikes on aircraft. The Minister also said that the state radio mast was placed wrongly and was straightly facing the runway.
According to Sen. Hadi Sirika, the new international terminal being developed at the Airport will also be finished before the end of 2020. He said that the equipment Landing Systems, airfield lightning, taxi lights, and other key deliverables are also part of the project to be delivered.
