The Federal Government of Nigeria ready to reward Lagos Seaport Terminal Operators over the current struggle in constructing rail lines in the seaport.
The rail line project was aimed to rapidly raise emptying, clearing and discharging of cargoes from the seaport and also to support effective and efficient service at the port and to raise government income.
The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) Managing Director, Ms. Hadiza Bala- Usman said that the rail track project is a multibillion naira project for the construction of the rail line inside the Lagos seaport. She said that the construction work has been signed by the Federal Government.
It was stated that before, containers were being emptied, cleared and discharged through the Lagos to Kaduna and Kano Inland container rail Terminals, but regrettably, after the land was a grant for some specific purpose since then the port rail line damaged and the rail track was totally removed.
Ms. Hadiza Bala- Usman said that the Federal Ministry of Transportation employed the contractor in collaboration with Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC) as part of the activity of the government to stop Apapa/TinCan port unceasing traffic congestion.
She added that operators have demolished affected areas like the warehouses and work has begun on laying the rail tracks and also the Federal Ministry of Transportation has given the required rewards to those affected areas to be used for the rail line project.
