NIGERIA: Edo Partners Presco on Oil Palm

The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki said that the state will sign an agreement with Oil Palm Seed Producing and Research Company, Presco Plc to develop Oil Palm Production.

Gov. Obaseki revealed this while the Board of Directors, Presco Plc Mr. Pierre
Vandebeeck visited him. The state has established a programme named Edo State Oil Palm Programme (ESOPP) intending to increase Oil production.

The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Dr. Godwin Emefiele has also pledged for fundraising worth N69bn during the launch of the (ESOPP) programme to support the programme and expand Oil Palm Industry and Production in Nigeria.

The Governor said that the partnership with the Presco is to work together on Oil Palm research and to have the best planting materials on the world.

Presco Plc has a research laboratory in Europe and has intended to establish and extend its research laboratory here in Nigeria to produce standard planting materials.

The Governor said that negotiations are on with Presco Plc to help the state in the implementation of the CBN’s oil palm initiative and for the company to extend to their investment to other places in the state.

Mr. Pierre Vandebeeck said that the Edo State Government has displayed willingness on the development and improvement of the technology in Nigeria, which would also help smallholder oil palm farms.
