Nigerians through the Nigerian Diaspora Organisation (NIDO), Asia chapter have started to introduce Japanese experiences to boosting the local rice production abilities of farmers.
NIDO who has advocated for rice farming which is mechanized starts with the provision of agricultural machinery and it is making ways to reduce post-harvest loss. The organization also moved to improve the quality of rice by developing the rice value chain.
While elaborating on the issue of mechanization in Lagos, the NIDO president, Asia chapter, Prof. Emenike Ejiogu said the organization and its Japanese partners are bringing in a modular integrator processor for farmers. These machines can do cleaning, hulling and sorting works.
According to Prof Ejiogu, farmers are equipped with knowledge by Japenese experts on how to use these machines and they are also introduced to good rice varieties suitable for local production.
Speaking on border closure, he extended commendations to President Muhammadu Buhari for this closure and he solicited for cooperation from all and sundry to ensure the periods of rice importation are over because it will benefit not only the country’s economy but also provide jobs for unemployed youths.
Another speaker and Public Relations Officer, NIDO Asia, Ochade Ochekwe said food security is a priority and the group has put importance on introducing Japanese experiences in agricultural development.
He also said NIDO partners with experts from Kanryu Industry Limited Japan and Mirai Denchi Inc Japan.
