Nigeria: Country Loses $50billion Post-harvest Annually

The Atyap Multi-purpose Cooperative Union has entered into Partnership Agreement with the Bank of Agriculture (BOA) on Mechanized Agricultural Production and Processing.

Mr. Nuhu Ayuba, the Chairman of the Union, stated that the agreement action was part of the struggle to raise Agricultural Production being the major source of livelihood of the people in the company location.

The Chairman explained that the Partnership will support the purchase of tractors, machinery, and implements. He said that the Union would also purchase ginger processing machines for the processing of ginger to level up to global standard and that the move is to reduce middlemen in ginger distribution.

Mr. Ayuba also said that the Union was also in Partnership with Nation Builders Cooperative Multipurpose Network and has introduced Agro-Forestry with aim centered on palm trees and economic trees plantation.
The objective is to guarantee that all vacant lands are used for the economic purpose all year round rather than rainy season-based farming which led to the waste of lands during the dry season.

He added that the Agro-Forestry will help farmers utilize their lands properly by growing crops along with economic trees on the same land for maximum advantage.
However, He said that the main objective of the Partnership was to attenuate risk in Agricultural Production and ensure a maximum profit on produce.
