The Federal Government is working to link Niger state with Abuja by rail in 2020.
This Project work was disclosed by the State Governor of Niger State, Alhaji Abubakar Sanni Bello. The Governor alluded to the public when he spoke at the last session of the State Council Meeting in Minna. Alhaji Bello said that he has not got a full say about the Project but he was quoted as saying the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi declared the plan in Abuja.
Governor Bello added that Rotimi Amaechi has announced the Project Work which would kick-off in 2020 and that the Project Work is part of the rail transportation plans of the Federal Government which is to decrease the stress on the road.
Also at the meeting, the Commissioner for Investment in Niger State, Dr. Mustapha Jibril who also confirmed the construction saying the State Government would construct the rail to link Minna with Suleja Town.
Dr. Jibril made it known that a large amount of money needed to carry out the feasibility study for the Project which he put at N1.2 billion, one of the three companies that indicated interest for the job has agreed to do the study without any cost to the State Government.
The Commissioner said that the light rail when fully constructed would carry Agricultural Products from Minna to Suleja from where the goods will be moved to other countries.
